have you ever read a book and then run off to go watch the movie only to be sorely disappointed with how Hollywood spun the tale you had in your head in a totally different direction? yeah, it sucks. and every time i read a new awesome book, i get worried that's what's going to happen with the next movie coming up.
cue my reading Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. that book...oh.em.gee. intense. i mean i've read other N. Sparks books before and this one was nothing like the other ones.
i spent 3/4's of the book hunched over, super frustrated and flipping page after page because i was so antsy. let me say - when books get me so involved, you know i'm loving the book. then, as soon as i finished the book, i flipped on the TV and here's a commercial for Safe Haven - The Movie.
y'all if this movie sucks, i'm going to be really unhappy. the book was fantastic and i expect the movie to hold true to the story. i mean there's not a whole lot you can do differently since the story is pretty simple.
welp. while thinking about books vs. movies, here are some of the others i came up with which SORELY disappointed me.

awful, awful, awful movie depictions. honestly, the ONLY one that i actually enjoyed was Breaking Dawn - Part Two.
really, they screwed up the major twisted ending from the book. how can you DO that?!?
i love me some Reese Witherspoon, but this movie just didn't do the book justice at all.
thankfully there are some movies which i think have done a pretty spectacular job of keeping up with the book(s): all of the Harry Potter's were fantastic (even though they deviated here & there, the story line ultimately kept up), Hunger Games, The Help...etc.
are y'all like me? do you get frustrated with terrible movies too?!

Be prepared to be disappointed. I'm going to watch it but have no expectations.
I've never read a Nicholas Sparks novel.
I didn't expect much from the Twilight films, so I wasn't too disappointed. I loved the last one though, especially the changed ending. Normally, I hate changes.
I really enjoyed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I can't remember what they changed from the book though. Oops.
I really liked Water for Elephants, but I didn't love the book. I actually liked the movie more. Ha!
The Help, The Hunger Games and all of the Harry Potters were great. The HP movies are my favorite adaptations.
I thought the HP movies were done extremely well - I liked them just as much as I liked the books. The Help was an amazing book, and while the movie wasnt AS good, it was still really great.
Loved the book Safe Haven and I hope the movie is good. I love me some Josh Duhammel :) And I miss you by the way!
I feel the same way about books/movies. I loved Safe Haven and I'm excited about the movie, but even from the preview, I can tell some things are different than the book. We shall see.
I already have a date with my friends to see this movie the end of February...that's why I'm not reading it. I too am afraid the book will ruin the movie. I agree, they did great with The Hunger Games. The rest, nope! Especially Twilight.
I'm a huge book nerd and I get SO disappointed when the movie doesn't live up. I loved all the HP books and movies. I loved the Twilight books and the movies are crap! I loved Water for Elephants and didn't see the movie. Maybe I should keep it that way! I read The Lucky One and haven't seen the movie but I have it on DVD. I'm hoping it's as good as the book...crossing fingers...
Did you see my super angry messages about Silver Linings Playbook? I want to cry! I saw a trailer for Safe Haven last night before SLP & I saw a bunch of stuff that didn't match the movie :( I think we still need to go see it together!
OMG have you read/seen My Sister's Keeper??? It's crazy how they TOTALLY CHANGED the very dramatic ending! I would be devastated (as a writer) if someone did that to my book!
i feel like the book is always better than the movie. ALWAYS.
I totally agree. Movies can never do the book justice.
I thought The Help was great. I HATED One For The Money. I actually had to turn it off in the middle. Which is too bad because the books are fun. I blame Katherine Heigl. I think the casting of most book movies is what kills it.
I am a HUGE Nicholas Sparks fan but have yet to read Safe Haven... I'm debating whether I should read it before or after seeing the movie-- because in one instance I will go in probably with high expectations and I hate being disappointed haha. So we'll see! I'm not a huge Julianne Hough fan but LOOOOOVE Josh Duhamel.
I agree with the Twilight series- loved the books, wasn't too keen on the movies (still have yet to see the last one)
I'm with you on this. I remember watching The Hunger Games and being like 'that's not how she got the pin!' but overall they did a good job.
I loved Safe Haven. It definitely pulled me in as well so I'm hoping that the movie sticks with it.
Not gonna lie, I LOVED Twilight. I read it before the movies came out and had such high hopes. I liked the first one okay, but they rest of them were ridiculous. I liked The Hunger Games other than the fact that the camera work made me want to puke!
So agree! Except I decided long ago I didn't like Nicholas Sparks books, but I do love their movie versions :)
I am always searching online for articles that can help me. Looking forward to another great blog. Good luck to the author! all the best!
